There is a book called “The Old Way of Seeing: How Architecture Lost its Magic.” The architects and builders of old had an innate sense of style and proportion that led to the creation of buildings.   It provides in-depth coverage of proportion your characters, how to judge sizes, etc. I noticed several reviews mentioning to get a different book if you wanted to be able to draw "chibi" style characters. Keep in mind that this book focuses on PROPORTIONS of your characters. It doesn't say "how to draw chibis" or anything of that s:

Scale and proportion applies to the accessories you use as well as to the furniture, rugs, light fixtures and other items in a room. Sign up to get my free e-book, "how to decorate like a designer.

In the world of design, scale and proportion both have to do with the size of objects in a given context. Scale is an understanding of how the size of one object in a space relates to the size of the other objects in the space, as well as the size of the space itself. Scale also describes the size of an object in relation to the human figure; for example, furniture is designed to human scale.   “Proportion” is the relationship between them. At one time or another, you’ve probably put things together in a room and thought, “That doesn’t feel right.” I’d be willing to bet that something is the wrong size or out of proportion. Once you look into the golden ratio (and practice using it), you’ll enhance your sense of scale.

Robins thoroughly explores the squared grid systems used by the ancient artists to proportion standing, sitting, and kneeling human figures. This investigation yields the first chronological account of proportional variations in male and female figures from the Early Dynastic to the Ptolemaic periods.

Even the artistic style of the scenes seems unchanging, but this appearance is deceptive. In this work, Gay Robins offers convincing evidence, based on a study of Egyptian usage of grid systems and proportions, that innovation and stylistic variation played a significant role in ancient Egyptian art.

We use the Golden Proportion in dentistry all the time, especially when designing smiles. For example, the two upper front teeth should be the same shape as the face turned upside-down if you want them to look in proportion to the face.

The other front teeth, the laterals and eyeteeth, are in a Fibonnacci proportion to the two front teeth. Proportion. Proportion is an element of design that pertains to the relative size of the components that compose an object.

Again, the human body is the standard by which people judge proportion. An eye should be smaller than a face, for instance, and a male’s shoulders should be wider than his hips. According to Albrecht Durer, a painter and print-maker who made extensive research in understanding the human proportion in his work titled The Four Books On Human Proportion (), he concludes that over-analyzing the human figure can make a person lose its artistic purpose and relations to its beginning students enter a figure.
